This year we found ourselves in the charming town of Amboy, IL. As Benia points out, the official population appears to be 2400 people. Discover other facts about Amboy at ePodunk.com
Man about town... What exactly are the Lions Clubs?

We went in search of the residential area of Amboy and found The Meadows.  Most of us would refer to this as a trailer park.
We saw some nice lawn ornaments.

The wooden pig wins the prize for best decoration.
Big tractor, little Benia.
Wouldn't it be cool to tell people that you live on the corner of Bacon and Egg?
When we asked a local merchant what there was to see in this town, we were directed to the Amboy City Park.  A big storm had damaged many trees in the park several years ago.  This opened up the opportunity for someone to show their skills with a chainsaw.
Carved with a chainsaw... We saw a lion and bear, but no tigers.

Amboy is home to a railroad museum.  There was so much to do and see around town, that we did not get a chance to go in on this trip.  Maybe next time.
Later, we headed for the neighboring town of Dixon, IL, which claims to be the boyhood home of Ronald Reagan.  While technically true, I really don't think that three years around the age of 10 allowed him to make much of a mark on the town.  Luckily we were impressed with the gas prices, thus this picture.
The official Amboy City Hall.  The reflection in the window makes for a pretty cool picture.
Just when we were enjoying all that Amboy had to offer, we saw that there are hillbillies everywhere.  I have to admit that I never thought to fly the NASCAR flag in my front yard. At least it is UNDER the Stars & Stripes!?
By this time we were getting hungry.  The obvious choice for dining in town is the Amboy Family Restaurant and Pizza Junction.  Despite the wide variety of cuisine, we were in the mood for some good old fashioned American food.

The meat loaf and breaded pork loin were very tasty at the Amboy Family Restaurant and Pizza Junction.
This is the Comfort Inn, Dixon, IL.  I guess we should have looked for the 3 star place, because this one was horrible.
My experience at the Comfort Inn, Dixon, IL inspired me to write a complaint about the paper thin walls, slamming doors, and extremely disappointing continental breakfast.  I never received a response from Comfort Inn.  I won't be back.
