The tiny town destination for 2006 was Aroma Park, IL. Aroma Park is a village in Kankakee County, in the Kankakee-Bradley metro area.
Don't you think that trees isolated on a lawn look lonely? Where are the baby trees? Oh yeah, the lawn mower ate them.
Every year we brave the bitter cold of February to take these trips. There has been discussion of moving the Tiny Town trip to the summer, but that would go against the founding principle of these trips. An alternative to the usual celebration of Valentine's Day was the original reason, but this quest may have taken on a life of its own.
Small towns have quaint, old style houses that we just don't get to see in our cookie cutter suburbs.

This year's award for corniest yard decoration goes to the owners of this Loch Ness monster replica.
Even though it was only 18 degrees out, the river was ice free.
The roads go right into the river in Aroma Park!
I was just about to walk the weasel when I saw this sign prohibiting urination in public. I also deduced that fighting and vandalism must be acceptable in the rest of Aroma Park since they found it necessary to put them on this list of prohibitions specific to the park.
The clutter was the inspiration for this picture.

Don goes to school on a Saturday.
Playgrounds are so sterile looking these days! Can you believe how blue that border is? I guess it is supposed to protect the grass from the evil wood chips. It might be a tripping hazard. Someone call a lawyer!
The school has a small patch of naturally landscaped area.
Cliff's Market is the place to get groceries in Aroma Park. If you look closely you will see a sign at the curb which depicts a loaf of bread and a bottle of milk. Many of the businesses in town had signs in this style to indicate the products or services they provided.
Benia stands proudly in front of Cliff's Market before we go in to do a little shopping.

NO Benia! Don't buy that! Actually, we bought some Guinness stout and magic cookie bars.
Sometimes you have to make a tough choice. Household cleaner or wine. Luckily they are in the same aisle at Cliff's Market.
I don't even know what I was supposed to get from this message. Was it derogatory or inspirational?
Don goes to find out what a prot dist might be. But seriously, perhaps Aroma Park should consider shortening the name of the fire department if they cannot fit all the letters on the building.
Here is another example of one of those iconic signs. See how helpful it is in describing the service that New Dimension Models provides?

We saw several of these fancifully painted coyotes or wolves all over Aroma Park. Apparently this one bites.
This must be where the Prot. Dist. stores the fire trucks.
Benia couldn't resist playing on the train.
Railroad crosses over the river at this point. This is probably a nice little park in the summer.
