  Tiny Towns: Tiskilwa, IL - 2004  (26 Slides)     [Page 1 of 1]
  $text.help
This year we visited Tiskilwa, IL.  It is located south of Interstate 80, about 10 miles from Princeton, IL.  It was a picturesque little town nestled in a valley.  According to the sign, there are about 800 residents.  For more details check out ePodunk.com.
This sign was on the other side of town from where we first entered, but I liked it so here is a picture.
Before reaching Tiskilwa, we stopped in Princeton for gas.  I even treated Heidi to the premium stuff since it was relatively cheap.  The 93 octane cost less than 87 octane does in Streamwood.
Here I am by the Tiskilwa post office.  It looks like those in most small towns, but it is an important part of the tour.
The commercial district in Tiskilwa was concentrated on Main St.  We stopped and did a little shopping at the grocery store.  The 15 minute parking limit was funny since I cannot imagine that there are big crowds trying to get in.

The residents of Tiskilwa have a quaint library where they can go to find a book.
I didn't see a town hall, but I did find the fire and ambulance station.
There weren't many people out on this brisk winter day, but we did see these girls several times during our tour of Tiskilwa.  They were making their way across town and so were we.  They probably thought we were stalking them.
This year's award for gaudiest lawn decoration goes to the owners of this Statue of Liberty replica.  They must be the envy of Tiskilwa.
A little natural beauty for balance.

This is Ronald Reagan Middle School.  This area of the state is all about Reagan since he spent some early part of his life here.  Does the sign really say that the students of this school did not have to go to class on Ronnie's birthday?
I could not conclusively determine whether the high school was abandoned or not.
We had lunch at the Indian Valley Inn.  It had a cozy bar atmosphere and friendly service.
The cozy bar atmosphere of Indian Valley Inn.
The beer selection was very limited, but I choked down some swill to immerse myself in the culture.

The food was just standard bar fare, but still tasty.
There were some nice old houses, as seen here.
There was another big house that looked cool, but it could use a few repairs.
On the lower end of the architechtural gamut we found a house with tires on the roof.
After our adventures in Tiskilwa, we headed for Princeton, IL.  We found the Little Creek Supper Club in the phone book.   It was actually in Hollowayville, IL, despite what the yellow pages indicated.

A fun little centerpiece at Little Creek Supper Club.
There were a wide variety of patrons celebrating Valentine's Day. I think the girl behind Benia may have forgotten to put on her shirt.
Our server, Heather was very nice, but she had a lot of obstacles to overcome. The steak was too rare. They were out of vegetables and served us grapes instead. We were promised sauteed mushrooms with our steak. When the steak was served, there were no mushrooms. Complaints resulted in some nasty warmed up mushrooms from a can. The only thing that saved the meal slightly was that we had plenty of wine and DiSaranno. Oh, and the augraten potatoes were good.
The next morning we decided to forgo the continental breakfast at Comfort Inn.  Opting instead for a little local flavor at the Coffee Cup restaurant.
I was pleased to find biscuits and gravy on the menu at The Coffee Cup...

...but disappointed to find that they had run out.  I ended up with the Papa's Combo instead.
