Canadian horseweed (Conyza canadensis) is commonly referred to as a weed. This is likely due to its very effective seed dispersal method.
It produces thousands of tiny seeds that are easily dispersed by wind due to the attached pappus (tiny hairlike bristles). This dispersal mechanism allows horseweed seeds to travel and establish themselves over great distances.
