Pennsylvania smartweed is usually considered a summer annual weed of horticultural, agronomic, and nursery crops. While it may be a nuisance to farmers, it is a native plant and therefore we should not judge it too harshly. While it can grow to 3.5 feet, this specimen is only about half of that and seems to prefer lying down.
